Exteroception
Exteroception is a stripped down, dead simple spring reverb driver based on the legend Ray Wilson's design. This version omits voltage control to simplify the build down to its bare minimum, and has carefully chosen component values to produce a variety of tones. It has boat loads of internal gain and is very easy to get it to bring out brilliant shimmery sounds that can range from warm, bright and fuzzy to harsh and shrill depending on what you're sending in. Turn the volume up slowly! If you find the output is too aggressive you can reduce the 220k resistor down as low as 100k to tame it.

The build is very easy with a small parts count. All passives are standard 0805, SOIC TL074 and LM386. The only exception is the 220uF electrolytic capacitor. Make sure you choose one with 5mm lead spacing and minimum 25 volt rating. For best results you should use shielded wire to connect the pads on the lower board to the RCA jacks on the front panel - if you buy your reverb tank from Amplified Parts you can get a short piece from them for a good price.Â

This circuit is designed to work with a MOD-9AB3C1B reverb tank. Any with 10 ohm input and 2575 ohm output will definitely work. Others with similar values may work - though are untested by us! Don't forget to get an RCA cable!
